What is the Parents Under Pressure Programme?

Parents Under Pressure (PUPs) is a one-on-one counselling programme designed to help parents manage the challenges of family life while prioritising their own well-being. Over the course of 10 individual sessions, parents will develop practical strategies to reduce stress, build resilience, and create a more positive home environment.

Building on the success of our Single Parent Stress Management Programme, PUPs is now open to all parents who want extra support in handling the pressures of parenthood. While the counselling itself is free, we do ask for a small contribution of £15 towards room rental and administrative costs. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, struggling with parental stress, or simply looking for a safe space to reflect and grow, our experienced placement counsellors are here to help.

Why Should I Consider the Parents Under Pressure Programme?

Support for Your Mental Health & Well-Being.

Parents Under PressureParenting can be overwhelming—1 in 6 adults in England experiences a common mental health issue (such as anxiety or depression) each week (Mind). A survey by Family Lives found that 34% of parents feel regularly stressed trying to balance work and home life. Left unchecked, this stress can take a toll on your well-being and relationships.

Our one-on-one counselling provides a confidential space to work through these challenges, helping you feel more in control and supported.

The Impact of Parental Stress on Children.

When parents experience high stress levels, it can affect family dynamics and a child’s emotional well-being (The Children’s Society). Parents Under PressureBy prioritising your own mental health, you can create a more stable and positive home environment for your children.

Our counsellors can help you develop coping strategies, manage difficult emotions, and build resilience—benefitting both you and your family.

Strengthening Personal & Family Relationships

Parenting stress can sometimes lead to tension in relationships, whether with a co-parent, family members, or even your children (Relate). While PUPs is not a family therapy or couples counselling programme, our individual sessions can help you:

  • Develop healthier communication strategies
  • Set boundaries and manage expectations
  • Work through parenting-related stress in a constructive way

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the emotional load of parenting, our one-on-one therapy can offer the personal support you need.

The Power of Seeking Help.

Many parents put their own needs last—but addressing stress and emotional challenges can positively impact your entire family. According to NHS Digital, structured support programmes like PUPs have been shown to reduce parental stress and improve overall well-being.
By taking this step, you’re helping yourself and creating a stronger foundation for your family’s future.
